What I ate: "PP", "Ryan", "AY", and I shared the following dishes ... ![]() 1. Crispy Calamari (8 USD): Chopped lettuce, chipotle ketchup, homemade Ranch. I thought this dish was just okay. The reason why it failed to impress me was that many of the calamari were overcooked, which resulted in a chewy, bubble gum texture. I would fix the calamari by using a thinner batter and a hot fryer. I thought the chipotle ketchup was nice. The cook wasn't heavy handed with the chipotle. ![]() 2. Penne Pasta, Shrimp, Clams, and Scallops (18 USD): Chopped tomato, basil, garlic, olive oil. This pasta had good flavor, though it didn't appeal to my own sense of good taste, which was primarily due to the sauce. The sauce was white wine and cream based. Good ingredients. ![]() 3. Grilled Marinated Skirt Steak (20 USD): Roasted onion, cracked pepper, Madeira. This was my favorite dish. The skirt steak was cooked beautifully to medium rare: textbook perfect, really. The potatoes - some kind of gratin - were delicious. Good pan sauce. 4. Fettucine & Chicken (no photo, 15 USD): Dried tomatoes, garlic, mushrooms, basil, cream. For those of you dying for a photo, this dish looked pretty much like the Penne Pasta, Shrimp, Clams, and Scallops. I preferred the fettucine dish to the penne dish. The sauce was simple and straightforward, which proved to have a better effect than the wine and cream with the penne. I didn't think "AY" liked the tomatoes: she left a lot of them untouched. Service was fine. However, I was a bit annoyed when someone turned down the lights in our part of the dining room, making it a poor environment for photo taking. Pish posh to romance, I want to take good photos! In summary, I liked the food and ambiance here, but I would hesitate to return because I thought the food wasn't worth the price charged for it. The dining room was quite nice. The menu was a bit dated and service was unremarkable for the most part. Parking: At State Street in Santa Barbara, there are public parking garages and parking lots located at intervals up and down the length of the street. To enter one of them, drive down one of the streets perpendicular to State. "PP", "Ryan", "AY", and I parked in a public garage at the corner of Anacapa and Anapamu Streets - one block away from Jane. The first 75 minutes were free. The Bill: Around 70 USD. My Rating:
