The Lazy Dog Cafe in Thousand Oaks

The bar at The Lazy Dog Cafe in Thousand Oaks
The Lazy Dog Cafe at The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks.

What I ate:

"PP", "Ryan", and I shared the following ...

1. Hawaiian Ahi Poke (9.25 USD): Sashimi grade tuna, green onions, avocado, sesame vinaigrette, wasabi cream, wonton chips. Out of all the dishes today, I liked this one best. The tuna crisp was better with the Asian slaw.

2.
Iceberg Wedge (5.95 USD): Iceberg, bleu cheese crumbles, red onion, tomato. I love wedge salad. I still remember my first wedge salad at a steak place in Oklahoma during one of my road trips to California from the Midwest. We made a nice one at a restaurant that I staged at which is now defunct - Three Forks in Claremont.

3. The Yankee (11.95 USD): Pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, red onions, marinara, mozzarella. I guess wood-fired ovens are becoming de rigueur in kitchens these days!

4. Asian Ahi Tuna Burger (9.95 USD): Medium-rare seared ahi tuna, Asian slaw, wasabi dressing. The fries were Cajun seasoned and came with Ranch and what I think was a creamy Cajun sauce. The tuna was cooked correctly - look at that pink! Unfortunately, the bread brought the whole composition down: it was too dry and stiff. I thought it might have been stale. Or perhaps it sat too long on the grill.

5. Grilled Garlic Flatbread (no photo, 3.95 USD). Actually, you can see the flatbread in the background of the Ahi Tuna Burger photo (though with difficulty). Nice. Garlic, Parmesan, olive oil, and dough make for a satisfying treat. Next to the Hawaiian Ahi Poke, I liked the flatbread best.

Parking: Not a problem at The Oaks Mall.

The Bill: I wanted to cover the bill, however, "PP" and our server conspired against me! I grudgingly thank you, "PP".

My Rating: No star out of four stars (satisfactory). Open Sunday, 10 AM to 11 PM, Monday to Thursday, 11 AM to 11 PM, and Friday and Saturday, 11 AM to midnight. Credit cards accepted. www.lazydogcafe.com

Last Word: This meal was the first of two during the outing that I had with "PP" and "Ryan". Up next is Jane in Santa Barbara
