These Bloggables Fell Through the Cracks

Hey, help me out. You get on your hands and knees too, guy!
I was looking through some files on my computer and I noticed that there were a couple of bloggables that never made it onto Woo!Food. I don't know what happened: I guess these posts just fell through the cracks.

First up is a recent meal I had at one of the myriad restaurants orbiting Gurnee Mills, which, I must say, is a behemoth of a shopping mall. I be-
lieve it's the biggest mall in northern Illinois. Anyway, one evening, I got roped into eating at Lone Star Steakhouse with a bunch of fellow

sailors.

What I ate:

1. Texas Ribeye (20.99 USD): A hand-cut, 14 oz. USDA Choice ribeye. Served with Garlic Mashed Potatoes. This steak was okay, although it was a little overdone for medium rare, which is how I ordered it. (My favorite part of the ribeye is the small, fatty strip that is separated from the main part by fatty connective tissue.) The Garlic Mashed Potatoes were made with waxy red potatoes. It was alright as well.

In addition to the Garlic Mashed Potatoes, the ribeye was served with a Signature Lettuce Wedge with bleu cheese dressing and diced tomatoes.
I actually enjoyed this simple wedge salad more than anything else in the meal:

2. Sweet Tea (something like 2-3 USD). The sweetness was just right for me.

The Bill: 23.83 USD.

My Rating: No star out of four stars (satisfactory). Call for hours of operation. Credit cards accepted. www.lonestarsteakhouse.com

The next bloggable is something that I tried last summer at Joy Yee Smoothie Station in Chicago's Chinatown: an Iced Almond Milk Tea with Boba.

The drinks seemed promising: There was a long queue and a large crowd full of smiling faces hanging out in front of the stand.

In spite of appearances, the Iced Almond Milk Tea turned out to be horrible. Here's a short list of the problems with it: the liquid was grainy (not mixed well, belies the use of a powder), the almond flavor was lacking (it is an almond milk, after all), and the boba was cold and hard (not warm and chewy as it should have been).

My buddy's drink wasn't any good either. I don't remember what D got, nevertheless, he wore that yuck face after the first sip.

The Bill: My friend, D, bought me the drink. I think he paid about 4 USD for it. Sorry you wasted your money, bro.

My Rating: No star out of four stars (poor). I hear the noodles are pretty good here. I mean, something must account for the success of the business because it can't be the boba drinks. Can't be. The noodle shop is open every day, 11 AM to 10:30 PM. The outdoor smoothie station is only open during the warm months of the year. Credit cards accepted. www.joyyee.com

Finally, it appears I left something out of my post on last summer's Taste of Chicago - the world's largest food festival. And that something would be a sample of the Original Rainbow Cone (ORC) from the vendor of the same name.

ORC has been a Chicago favorite for over 86 years. Here's a graphic that shows what a Rainbow Cone is all about:

If my memory serves me (and it does), I remember that the swirled mix of ice cream was absolutely fabulous! Somehow, the flavors married quite well. I wished I had bought a full-size cone instead of settling for just a taste.

Well, that was about it. I'll try not to let stuff fall through the cracks anymore. (Yeah, right.)

The Last Word ...
I can't wait to go home for Christmas!
