Dude, 99¢ Tacos

Rosarito Mexican Food Restaurant in Pasadena
Regardless of what your opinion of Rosarito Mexican Food Restaurant in Pasadena is, you have to remember that, dude, the tacos are only 99¢.

On Friday afternoon, the inimitable "PD" and I took a break from churchy activities to grab a bite at Rosarito Mexican Food Restaurant (RMFR). The week before, I heard some folks at church talking about this place, saying how great it was and how legit it was, so I had to investigate.

On the menu at RMFR: tacos, burritos, nachos, tortas, combo plates, menudo, burgers, and French fries.

"PD" and I watched the guy working behind the counter while he made some nachos and our taco orders:

What I ate:

1. Chorizo Taco and Taco al Pastor (0.99 USD each). These were not some of the better tacos that I've ever had, but they were satisfactory nevertheless - dude, 99¢. I liked the al Pastor - one of my all-time-favorite taco meats - better than the chorizo. (The best chorizo taco I've ever had was at El Huarache Azteca in Highland Park.) "PD" and I received housemade chips along with our tacos!

2. A bottle of Sidral Mundet Apple Soda (1.74 USD, I think). I LOVE apple soda.

"PD" bought some fish tacos, which were also 99¢ each. These weren't the Baja variety - battered and fried fillets - so I wasn't interested. Also, I doubted that you could sell a quality fish taco for 99¢, so, yeah, I declined to try them.

The guys working behind the counter were friendly. I would return to Rosarito just to say "Hi" to these guys.

"PD" and I saw the cook make a couple of nacho plates. They looked good.

I thought the dining room was a bit scuzzy. I wasn't the least bit interested in dining in.

Parking: Plentiful.

The Bill: 4.06 USD.

My Rating: No star out of four stars (satisfactory). Open Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 10 PM, and on Sunday, 9 AM to 9 PM. CASH ONLY.

Last Word: I think Viva Tacos La Estrella is a better choice in this part of Pasadena. But, dude, the tacos at Rosarito Mexican Food Restaurant are 99¢.
