The Original P Stands by this Selection

Surprise, L and G! You're on Woo!Food Camera!
Before I moved to Chicagoland, I remember having a discussion with my nephew - The Original P - about where I should go eat in the Windy City. The Original P attended university at a prestigious institution nearby Chi-town, therefore, I valued whatever input he could give me. When the subject of deep dish pizza came up, The Original P recommended one restaurant in particular: Uno Chicago Grill. I actually remember Uno from my days at UW in Madison. But I don't remember ever eating there.

On Saturday (June 30), I went with some roommates to Gurnee to do some shopping. While we were there, my companions wanted to stop at a restaurant for lunch. Somehow, I persuaded them that Uno was the place they wanted to go. It helped that G, who had been at Great Lakes for I-don't-know-how-many-months (i.e., a long time), still hadn't tried Chicago deep dish pizza!

What I ate:

I shared a large Numero Uno ® (24.29 USD) with my buddies: A 'works' pizza with sausage, pepperoni, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and Uno's unique chunky tomato sauce. Topped with mozzarella and grated Romano. The best part of the pizza was the crust. It was really good - full of flavor, rich, and buttery. As for the rest of the pizza, I didn't think too much of it. Maybe it's because the toppings were out of order? My ideal of Chicago deep dish is a 'reverse pizza': cheese on the bottom, then the toppings, with everything blanketed by sauce. Here's a photo of a slice:

The Bill: Around 45 USD for two appetizers, four drinks, and a large deep dish pizza.

My Rating: No stars out of four stars (satisfactory). Open Sunday, 11 AM to 10 PM, Monday through Thursday, 11 AM to 11 PM, and Friday and Saturday, 11 AM to midnight. Credit cards accepted. www.unos.com

Last Word:
I'm still looking for the definitive deep dish experience. Let me know if you have any suggestions :)
